Vision
The apartment is almost done, but we still need your help. We just need to paint some trim, add some finishing touches to the bathroom, and do a final cleanup! Thank you to everyone who has helped with this project so far. The long-term benefit of this renovation is that it will provide reasonably priced housing for someone and the rental income will help cover the operating costs of our church. We are also implementing a new visitation ministry where we will be training workers (volunteers) on how to make meaningful visits with people in hospitals, those in nursing homes, individuals who can't get out of their homes often, or others who simply need a visit. If you are interested in being part of this ministry or would like more information about it, reply to this email and I will be happy to connect you with the program. We need a few people to help us out Sunday after service to put the storm windows on the outside of the sanctuary. We have sealed up the drafty windows on the inside, but the screens on the outside need to be removed and the storm windows put in place. It shouldn't take long, we just need 2-3 people who are willing to do it for us. Anything we can do to cut down on drafts and keep the heat inside the building will help us reduce our operating costs and allow us to do more ministry with the resources we have. We also need a few people to tackle the office basement this winter. This isn't an urgent renovation, but something needs to be done with it so the space can be used again.

Wins
1. There is a growing sense of community in our small groups, where group members are reaching out to each other throughout the week and are encouraging each other and learning from each other, not just looking to the group leader to have all the answers! 2. I was chatting with someone this week who has been attending The Olive Branch on Tuesday nights and they shared just how significant that ministry has been to them in their personal journey and in their faith. It really is a ministry you should consider checking out, whether you are dealing with hurts, addictions, hangups, or troubling habits. 3. I got word from Souls Harbour Rescue Mission this week that they are moving forward with plans to rent our church basement to begin a ministry site here in Amherst. They are hoping to launch the site in early 2025, and their plan is to provide a free meal for the community each day at noon Monday-Friday! You can find out more about Souls Harbour here. |
Not a Temporary RemedyKeep Your Eyes on Jesus - Sunday, November 10 As life throws problems at us we have developed a number of different strategies for handling them. Some of them are better than others, but we have made do with what we have. These coping mechanisms range from building emotional walls to over-exercising. Sometimes we even find them to be so effective we think they may have solved the problems, but then we start to notice the new problems those strategies have caused. They were never solutions, only band-aids. God has a better option for us. Don't mistake temporary remedies for a cure.
